VFH FILM NIGHT presents in association with The R C Sherriff Trust. Celebrating 25 Years Advancing the Arts in Elmbridge
As a tribute to R C Sherriff, as part of From Rosebriars to The Rowing Eight: 25 Years of The RC Sherriff Trust, in celebration of his generous legacy which has supported and developed arts and culture in Elmbridge, we are presenting an R C Sherriff double, the first of which is the 1939 film, Goodbye Mr Chips, for which Sherriff penned the screenplay.
Young schoolteacher Charles Edward Chipping (played by Robert Donat) looks back on his life from his days as a young school master. He finds the love of spirited young suffragette Katherine Ellis (Greer Garson) and it is this relationship that brings him out of his shell and transforms him into a beloved campus institution. The film is set against the backdrop of the seismic events of the early C20th, the shattering violence of the first World War.
